GEORGE THOMAS DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY RELATIONS

George Thomas is currently a Director of Community Relations at Jackson Clark Partners working as part of a partnership with the Forbes Funds to build a model for sustained resident participation throughout our region.

George had been a long-term unemployed Desert Storm veteran before he was hired in 2013 for the Hazelwood Community Census Team. Although a lifelong resident of Hazelwood, he had never been involved in the community and didn’t know that neighborhood organizations and local service providers even existed. George managed a group of 12 fellow residents, connecting with 800 households one door at a time. I met more people in Hazelwood in that six months than I'd ever met in my life. I went from not knowing what was up to people calling me  Mr. Hazelwood when I walked down the street.

George has gone on to work with Jackson/Clark as resident outreach trainer for the One Northside Census and Team Leader for the Allegheny Dwellings resident survey, and was recruited for the GTECH Community Ambassadors leadership program. After being asked by the chair of the Hazelwood Initiative to participate on their board, he became board vice-chair within his first-ever year of nonprofit board service.

LISA FREEMAN DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY RELATIONS

Lisa Freeman is currently a Director of Community Relations at Jackson Clark Partners working as part of a partnership with the Forbes Funds to build a model for sustained resident participation throughout our region.

Lisa Freeman has over 25 years of experience in the social work field.  She has dual Master degrees from the University of Pittsburgh in Social Work and Public Administration.  She has earned a reputation for working with the most at-risk families located in troubled neighborhoods. She was hired in 2015 for the One Northside Census Team.   Lisa became "activated" and responded to an outreach opportunity and was hired to manage a group of 12 fellow residents who were motivated to reach as many as possible of the disengaged and marginalized residents that often do not have opportunity to be "heard".  The team connected with 2,200 households one door at a time.  Lisa is homeowner of the Northside and resides with her husband and children in Historic Manchester.
